Since the very beginning of JDFAF, The Founding Associates has been a vital, and effective part of the organization.
The Founding Associates, whose mission is to provide financial support and volunteer service to assist in realizing the goals of JDFAF, comprises a group of women, primarily in the Los Angeles area that, since the inception of JDFAF in 1983, have joined the struggle to raise money for the foundation's Alzheimer's disease research by planning and coordinating a variety of entertaining special events.
The Founding Associates conduct three meetings a year for its members. Informative presentations are made by experts in the fields of aging, nutrition, exercise and other health-related issues. One meeting features a presentation by a scientist, funded by JDFAF, who has been "adopted" by The Founding Associates, and focuses on the knowledge gained and impact of their work on the overall quest to find a cure for Alzheimer's.
Since 1983, The Founding Associates have raised funds for many illustrious scientists, including Dr. Stanley Prusiner, Chairman of the JDFAF International Scientific Advisory Board, and Nobel Prize winner in medicine. He serves as Director of the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases at the University of California, San Francisco.
